over the next few day i will be posting places and spaces that inspire me. anyone who knows me knows i adore where we live. on the shore line of beautiful lake monona in madison wisconsin. every day i am reminded that magic is alive as i absorb the vista from my flat. my heart still wanders from this beautiful place though, and i daydream (and sometimes night dream) about lofts, refurbished barns, and old warehouses. i just love a space used in an unexpected way. many years ago, while at university, i did get the chance to live in a barn for a while, there were 4 of us, all wildly artistic, inhabiting the space ~ putting our own bent on how the communal space should be used. some things i recall loving about the barn were the soaring ceilings, the massive window/doors that made you feel connected to nature. the rustic overall nature of this old place was so unique - things of old are so saturated with stories. with a color pop of a modern day painting here and there, a gifted sari wafting from the rafters, and some fascinating folks carrying on, that old barn made for a whimsical, rugged place called home. today i want to show you oswald's mill, an 18th century, 4 story, germanic house-mill in pennsylvania. it so reminds me of the green barn with a few more mature buffed and polished qualities to it. what sort of interior spaces make your heart sing?
